Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker competitor on the globe by many of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather introduced him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover everything he could about poker. He would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the adverse feedback from others annihilate his ambition of being one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.

Phil began competing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a teaching experience and winning was not a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and a continuing passion for the game of poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and always aspires to improve.

Although Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he likes winning money games on a normal basis.
