Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker contender on the globe by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover anything he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not allow the detrimental comments from others annihilate his goal of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

Phil began competing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning was not a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed many of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and an eternal love for poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every single day and is very abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making mistakes in each session of poker and always strives to improve.

Although Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
