Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker player in the world by many of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup everything he could about poker. He routinely would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the negative feedback from others kill his goal of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.

He began playing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an undying love for the game of poker. He states that he is learning every day and is very humble about his achievements. Phil admits to making errors every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
