Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor in the world by quite a few of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover every little thing he possibly could about the game. Phil would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the detrimental comments from other people destroy his goal of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

Phil began competing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed many of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and a continuing love for the game of poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every day and is very abashed about his success. Phil admits to making mistakes every single game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Even though Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
