Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker contender on the planet by many of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His papa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to discover anything he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not let the detrimental feedback from other people annihilate his goal of being one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

He began playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching experience and winning was not a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated a number of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and a continuing love for the game of poker. He says that he is learning every single day and is quite abashed about his success. He admits to making blunders in each session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a regular basis.
