Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker contender on the planet by most of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandfather showed him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup anything he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the negative feedback from other people kill his ambition of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

Phil started playing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a teaching period and winning wasn’t a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an undying love for poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is quite humble about his success. Phil admits to making errors in each session of poker and always strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
