Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to discover whatever he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not let the negative feedback from other people destroy his goal of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.

He started playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an undying passion for the game of poker. He states that he is picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his success. He admits to making blunders in each session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
