Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by many of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His papa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover everything he could about poker. Phil routinely told his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the negative comments from others destroy his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.

He began playing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning period and winning was not a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed many of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and a continuing love for poker. He states that he is picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his success. He admits to making errors in each game of poker and always strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
