Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to learn every little thing he could about poker. Phil would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the adverse comments from other people destroy his dream of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.

Phil started playing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated many of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an immeasurable passion for poker. Phil states that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his success. Phil admits to making mistakes in each game of poker and always strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some large tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
