Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender in the world by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching turning 1. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to learn whatever he could about poker. He would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the detrimental comments from other people annihilate his goal of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

He began competing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a teaching experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed a number of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an undying passion for poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making errors every single session of poker and always strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some big tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
