Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker player in the world by quite a few of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn every little thing he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the detrimental feedback from others destroy his ambition of being one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

He started competing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his success. Phil admits to making errors every single game of poker and always aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
