Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup everything he could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the detrimental comments from others annihilate his ambition of being one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

He began playing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning period and winning wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated a number of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he is learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and always strives to get better.

Although Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a normal basis.
