Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender on the globe by many of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup whatever he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the negative comments from others kill his ambition of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.

Phil began playing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a teaching period and winning wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an eternal love for poker. He states that he is learning every single day and is quite humble about his achievements. He admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Although Ivey has won some big tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
