Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker player on the globe by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather showed him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover every little thing he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the detrimental comments from others kill his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.

Phil started competing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching experience and winning was not a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated a number of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s learning every single day and is very abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Even though Ivey has won some large tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
