Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker player on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa introduced him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover whatever he possibly could about the game. Phil would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the negative feedback from other people kill his dream of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.

He started competing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an undying passion for poker. He states that he is learning every day and is very abashed about his success. He knows he makes errors every single game of poker and always strives to improve.

Although Phil has won some large tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
