Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker competitor on the planet by most of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching turning one. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he could about poker. He would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not let the negative comments from others destroy his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.

He started playing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated a number of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an undying passion for poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his success. He admits to making errors in each session of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
