Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker contender on the planet by quite a few of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he could about the game. He would tell his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the adverse feedback from other people kill his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.

He began competing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a regular outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated many of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable love for poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every day and is very abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes errors in each game of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some big tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
