Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender on the globe by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandpa introduced him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup whatever he possibly could about poker. He would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the negative comments from others kill his ambition of being one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

Phil started playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an undying love for the game of poker. He states that he’s learning every day and is quite humble about his success. He knows he makes errors in each session of poker and always strives to get better.

Even though Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
