Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker contender on the planet by most of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to learn whatever he possibly could about poker. He would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the negative feedback from other people annihilate his goal of being one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

Phil started competing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching experience and winning was not a regular outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed many of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an immeasurable love for poker. He says that he is picking up skills every day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and always strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
