Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker player in the world by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn everything he could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the adverse comments from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

Phil began competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and an undying passion for poker. Phil says that he’s learning every single day and is quite humble about his success. He admits to making blunders in each game of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
