Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker player in the world by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of one. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn anything he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the detrimental feedback from other people kill his ambition of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

He began competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching period and winning was not a normal thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated many of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an undying passion for the game of poker. He states that he’s learning every single day and is very abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes blunders every single game of poker and always aspires to improve.

Even though Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a normal basis.
