Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender on the planet by many of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandpa showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to pickup anything he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the negative comments from other people destroy his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

He began competing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a teaching experience and winning wasn’t a regular thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed many of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an undying love for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his success. He admits to making errors in each session of poker and always strives to get better.

Even though Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
