Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor in the world by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover anything he could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the adverse comments from other people destroy his goal of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.

Phil started competing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning period and winning wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed many of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. Phil says that he is learning every day and is very humble about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making errors every single game of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Although Phil has won some big tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
