Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker contender on the planet by many of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to learn everything he could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the adverse feedback from other people kill his ambition of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.

He started competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an eternal love for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s learning every day and is quite humble about his success. He knows he makes blunders every single game of poker and always aspires to improve.

Although Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a normal basis.
