Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather showed him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup every little thing he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the adverse comments from other people kill his goal of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

He started competing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an immeasurable passion for poker. He states that he’s learning every single day and is very humble about his success. He knows he makes errors in each game of poker and always strives to improve.

Even though Ivey has won some big tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
