Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker competitor in the world by most of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather introduced him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover every little thing he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the detrimental feedback from other people destroy his ambition of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.

He began competing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching experience and winning wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed a number of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an undying love for the game of poker. He states that he’s learning every day and is quite abashed about his success. He knows he makes errors every single session of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Although Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a normal basis.
