Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker competitor on the planet by most of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover every little thing he could about the game. Phil routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the negative feedback from others destroy his dream of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.

He began competing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a regular outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated many of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an eternal love for the game of poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his success. He admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Although Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
