Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker player in the world by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandpa showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn every little thing he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the negative feedback from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.

Phil began competing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching period and winning wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated many of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an undying passion for the game of poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is very abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes blunders in each session of poker and always strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
