Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker contender on the globe by quite a few of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of one. His papa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn whatever he could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the negative comments from other people kill his goal of being one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

Phil began competing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. He states that he is learning every day and is very abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes errors in each game of poker and always strives to get better.

Although Ivey has won some big tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a normal basis.
