Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker competitor on the globe by many of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to learn everything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not let the adverse feedback from other people kill his ambition of being one of the strongest poker players in the world.

He started playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning wasn’t a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing love for the game of poker. Phil says that he is learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes blunders in each session of poker and always aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he likes winning money games on a regular basis.
