Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player in the world by quite a few of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His papa showed him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to learn every little thing he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the detrimental feedback from other people annihilate his goal of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.

He began playing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated many of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an undying love for poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making errors every single game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Although Ivey has won some large tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
