Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor in the world by many of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandfather introduced him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup anything he could about poker. Phil would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the negative feedback from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker players in the world.
Phil began playing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed a number of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an undying love for the game of poker. He states that he’s learning every day and is quite abashed about his success. Phil admits to making mistakes every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Even though Phil has won some big tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
