Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker player on the globe by most of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to learn anything he possibly could about the game. He routinely would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the detrimental comments from other people destroy his goal of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.
Phil began playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed many of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and an eternal love for the game of poker. Phil says that he is learning every day and is quite abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making errors in each session of poker and always strives to improve.
Although Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
