Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker contender in the world by many of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa introduced him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover everything he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the detrimental feedback from others kill his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

He began playing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated a number of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s learning every single day and is quite humble about his success. He knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and always strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a regular basis.
