Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker player on the globe by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover everything he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the adverse feedback from other people kill his ambition of being one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

He began competing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an undying passion for poker. He states that he is picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making mistakes in each session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Even though Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
